Week 2: Start a Crochet Notebook, Journal, Scrapbook or Blog

Week 2 of the 52 Week Crochet Challenge is here, and since I already have a crochet notebook, journal, scrapbook and blog, I thought I would share my notebook with you.

I have to admit I am crazy for office supplies, so when I came across this notebook, I had to have it. What I love most about it is that the pages are graph paper. The graph paper makes it super easy to draw out stitch charts neatly. I also found a handy cover for it. It's clear plastic and has a zipper close pocket where I can store my pencils, color wheel and whatever else.

I started this notebook while working on my book Crochet-opedia and it's helped keep me organized. I can easily find notes, patterns I'm working on, design sketches, and anything else I need to keep track of. I also find that it's made me even more creative. Just looking through it is inspirational to me and will spark my creativity.

I also like to play with color. The picture above is a free blanket pattern that I created for the National Crochet Month blog roll, hosted last year by Crochetville.http://crochetville.com/ The blanket is worked in squares that are then joined together, but I wasn't sure exactly how I was going to arrange them, so I colored squares and cut them out. Then I was able to play around with the placement. It was a fun pattern to make, and it's on Ravelry here: Bright Striped Blocks Blanket Charity Pattern.

So, that's my crochet notebook, and my week 2 challenge. Thanks for visiting, enjoy!

  1. That's a great notebook for designing and playing in- you reminded me about a notebook I have that might be better for this week's challenge than the one I picked. Off to try and find it!

  2. Love your Crochet-opedia book! Funny how office supplies are so tempting to many folks - I like them too. I've thought about having a notebook with the patterns I've worked and notes (yarn type, color, etc). Thank you for sharing how you worked on Bright Striped Blocks pattern. It's so cheerful :)

    1. Thank you so much :) Crochet-opedia was a labor of love. And I agree about the office supplies. There's just something that takes over my brain . . . paper, pencils, colored pens, oh boy!

  4. Since I have a blog, I am going to start a crochet journal. A lot of times I start a project, put it down for a while and when I pick it back up, I can't remember hook size, whether I ch 1 or 2, etc. It might even help me not start 10 projects until I have at least finished one or two. Ha! Ha!

    1. Yep, I totally understand, and it would drive me crazy trying to figure out what I had done, but now I am less frustrated because I have my journal.
      Thanks for sharing!

  7. Seeing your "Bright Striped Blocks Afghan brought back memories. Two nephews shared a room, so needed coordinating afghans. Using this variegated yarn, I alternated stripes of red for one and blue for the other. Crochet ripple turned so the stripes were vertical vs the usual horizontal, kept it light weight for Florida.

  8. Are you tempted to start a new project before another is finished? Keep a journal notebook with page protectors. Make your notes, materials list, shopping list ...and a sample of the project or pattern. When you've finished a current project, the prep work is done for the next.
